Jera rune meaning
Jera is the twelfth rune of the Elder Futhark and stands for the sound j (pronounced like the y in yes). Its name means year, and in farming societies the year meant above all the cycle from sowing to harvest. The Anglo-Saxon rune poem calls it the hope of mankind, when the earth gives its fruits to rich and poor alike.
Its shape, two angles that fit together without touching, represents the turning of the seasons: one cycle closing as another begins.
Jera upright
Jera announces rewards: months or years of effort starting to pay off. It could be a promotion, money coming in, a project maturing or a chapter closing successfully.
The rune also reminds you that everything has its season. If you can't see the fruit yet, keep tending what you've planted. Jera always reads the same, because its shape doesn't change when turned over.
Jera reversed
Jera has no reversed position: it looks the same right side up and upside down, so its message always reads the same way. It's one of the nine runes that can't be reversed, along with Gebo, Hagalaz, Naudhiz, Isa, Eihwaz, Sowilo, Ingwaz and Dagaz.
In love
In love, Jera speaks of a relationship that matures over time and of the rewards of having cared for it. It can announce a commitment or a stable stretch.
If you're single, the rune asks for patience: love that arrives in its own time tends to be the kind that lasts.
Work and money
At work, Jera is very favorable: recognition, results and the payoff of steady effort. It's time to reap what you've sown.
It also advises thinking long-term: whatever you plant now will be your next harvest.
Jera’s advice: Respect the timing: what's sown with patience is harvested with abundance.
